About Darius Rucker

Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Rucker was raised by a single mother, a nurse, with his three sisters and two brothers. He only saw his dad before church, who was in a gospel band. While he grew up poor, Rucker looks back on his childhood with fond memories, and her sister recalls that he always wanted to sing.

While attending the University of South Carolina, he met his fellow Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates Mark Bryan, Jim "Soni" Sonefeld, and Dean Felber. Bryan recalls first hearing Rucker singing in the shower, becoming a duo, and played R.E.M. covers as they started out in music.. The stars all aligned later on as they became a band, recording seven studio albums where their hits charted the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 six times.

His solo career kicked off in 2001 when he released his R&B debut album "The Return of Mongo Slade" supposedly through Atlantic, but contract changes happened in between, so it was picked up by Hidden Beach Recordings and released as "Back to Then" in 2002. Later on, he signed with Capitol Records Nashville to pursue country music, and he scored a hit with "Don't Think I Don't Think About It".

From then on, his country domination began, and he won the CMA New Artist of the Year Award (formerly the Horizon Award) - being the first African American in history to win the title since it was introduced in 1981. As a whole only one other Afircan American has won an award at the CMAs.

This time, he's keeping his legacy alive and kicking with a celebratory tour dedicated to his masterpieces that's definitely made for the summer vibe. Don't miss out by booking your tickets now!
