Born in 1979 and grew up in Miami Gardens, Florida, the man grew up in a musical family whre his sisters took part in a local gospel group. In ninth grade, he joined a rap group called Ground Hoggzz, and remained in tact for eight years. Catching the attention of Fresh Kid Ice, he was asked to be his hype man, and took him out for a show in Hawaii. Following thuis exposure, he caught the attention of DeVante Swing of Jodeci, but juggled life and other jobs as major labels didn't quite see the appeal at the time. After attending university for two months, he realized his true calling for music, returning to Florida to pursue his career. His first major release was a promotional single feat. Rick Ross, called "Birthday".
In 2008, he released his debut album "Mail on Sunday" which featured his single "Low" featuring T-Pain. Hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Flo Rida soon found his efforts paying off in the best way possible. His album also featured a slw of big guests including Timbaland, Trey Songz, Rick Ross, will.i.am, Sean Kingston, and many more.
In March 2009, he dropped his second album "R.O.O.T.S." with "Right Round" featuring Kesha as its first single. The track broke records as taking the most digital one week sales, beating the previous record which was his own song "Low". From then on, the man has non-stop chart-topping releases, shaking up the dancefloor around the globe. He succesful & multi-platinum singles include "Wild Ones" feat. Sia, "Whistle", "Good Feeling", "Club Can't Handle Me" featuring David Guetta, "I Cry", and "My House".
An impressive journey spanning over 17 years, Flo Rida's newest milestone is "Low" achieving a diamond certification from the RIAA with over 10 million units sold. Looking back, he's come a long way from the track that became the longest-running single of 2008.
"[“Low”] was a very versatile record, so it took me to being not just the typical urban artist, but to being a pop star as well. It set the tone for me to be able to do all kinds of records," Flo Rida told Billboard.
Packed with ear candy and hard-hitting energies, "The fact that I recorded this record so fast, it was almost like a freestyle," he recalled. "When I heard [it], I just knew it was gonna be big, [especially] ’cause T-Pain was doing a lot of huge records at the time."
